What is An Emirates ID
in The UAE Used For?

  • The card can be used as a document to pass through immigration control in several UAE airports, including DXB. Cardholders can pass through the eGates and smart gates by scanning their card and presenting a fingerprint. Meaning, a cardholder will not have to wait in long lines, and will also save visa space in the passport
  • It acts as a travel document for UAE citizens traveling within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)
  • It provides access to numerous government services as well as secure eServices. For example, government authorities in Dubai, including RERA, Dubai Municipality and the RTA require an ID for any transactions. For instance, the RTA has kiosks installed throughout Dubai, through which one can renew a driving license or pay a traffic fine, among other services. When using these kiosks, one has to enter the details of their national identification card, otherwise, there is no way to benefit from these services
  • If you want to avail from banking or telecom services in the UAE, you have to provide an Emirates ID
  • An Emirates ID is required to cast a ballot in the Federal National Council Elections
  • Since June 2021, identification cards can be used for vaccine and PCR status at Dubai International Airport, meaning printed test results are no longer necessary. Passengers can insert their Emirates ID into a card reader that will return their PCR test results and current vaccination status. This comes as a collaborative initiative of Emirates Airline and the Dubai Health Authority
  • Individual medical insurance has also been integrated into the Emirates ID, dismissing the need for a separate insurance card
  • An Emirates ID is a primary payment token that is linked automatically to the ADNOC Wallet account. It allows a cardholder to pay for their fuel at any smart service station
  • As well as the above, Al Etihad Credit Bureau launched a new system called Application-to-Application in 2016 which allows banks, finance companies and telecom operators to access information about prospective borrowers via the chip on the Emirates ID cards.
