Dubai plans to create more than 621 km of cycling routes

An ambitious cycling master plan will make Dubai the most bike-friendly city in the world by 2040. It is planned that the city aims to create more than 621 mi of routes, which will surpass Amsterdam and Copenhagen. Currently, the cycling infrastructure of Amsterdam is 320 mi, and Copenhagen is 337 mi.

Dubai aims to transform residents' daily commute by encouraging cycling and walking to key services and locations in just a few minutes. The “Dubai Cycle City 2040” study describes a comprehensive development plan for its new cycling infrastructure, including a 58 mi climate controlled bike trail called The Loop. An eco-friendly, zero-emission transport system will contribute to the health and well-being of all Dubai residents.

According to the plan, the new infrastructure also aims to provide the above communities with public services and amenities, including urban agriculture, social spaces and more. Among the amenities that will be available for residents are vertical farms for food security and 100% recycled water for irrigation.

Thanks to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the development of the emirate's housing sector and urban infrastructure is aimed at making Dubai an environmentally-friendly city. It is expected that by 2040, the population of the emirate will more than double, which will affect the expansion of the real estate market.
