The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) is a 110-hectare mixed-use district located in the heart of Dubai. Established in 2004 as a free economic zone under the initiative of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DIFC has grown over the past two decades into one of the world’s leading financial centres.

As of early 2025, DIFC was home to over 6,900 entities — from banks and investment funds to insurance firms, law practices, and consulting companies. It serves as the main financial hub for the MEASA region (Middle East, Africa, and South Asia), providing businesses with access to 77 markets across the region.

DIFC is a fully integrated district, home not only to offices but also to high-end residential complexes, luxury hotels, restaurants, art venues, retail outlets, and social infrastructure.

Overview and Location

DIFC is located in the heart of Dubai, along Sheikh Zayed Road, providing fast and convenient access to other parts of the city. Dubai International Airport (DXB) can be reached in 15 minutes by car or within 20–30 minutes by metro or bus.

To the south of DIFC lies Downtown Dubai, a global tourist destination home to landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and the Dubai Fountain. To the southwest is Business Bay — the city’s vibrant business district, centred around a scenic canal and known for its high-rise residences, office towers, and a wide selection of restaurants.

DIFC offers a unique atmosphere that blends the energy of global business with a rich cultural scene. The area is characterised by sleek high-rises housing international corporate offices, upscale apartments, and luxury hotels.
